Line Manager (Job Title): Deputy Project Director

Job Summary:
The Theatre Specialist is responsible for managing the installation and setup of theatre systems and associated AVL (Audio, Video, and Lighting) infrastructure from project initiation through completion and handover. This role acts as a key liaison between the Principal Designer, construction team, and client, ensuring all theatrical systems are properly planned, installed, and operationally aligned.
Duties & Responsibilities/Deliverables:
- Serve as subject matter expert on theatrical design throughout all phases of construction, including scheduling, planning meetings, and quality control.
- Review architectural and engineering plans to ensure compatibility with theatre system requirements.
- Conduct and oversee on-site inspections to verify compliance with theatrical standards, project specifications, technical drawings, and safety codes.
- Specify and manage installation of stage lighting, dimming systems, sound systems, rigging, and AV infrastructure.
- Prepare detailed documentation and reports on project progress, technical requirements, and system commissioning.
- Develop testing protocols and oversee the commissioning of installed systems to ensure full functionality and quality performance.
- Coordinate and deliver training for operational and technical staff on installed systems.
- Collaborate with end users to develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for technical operations as required by the employer.
- Provide plans for long-term maintenance and safety protocols for the new facility.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Theatre Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in theatre system installation with a strong technical background. (15 years for Diploma holders.)
- Proven experience in new theatre builds, renovations, or system installations is highly preferred.
Skills & Person Specification:
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage the installation of theatrical systems.
- Proficiency with theatre systems including lighting (ETC, Strand), audio (Dante, QLab), and rigging (manual and motorized).
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, installation practices, materials, and relevant regulations.
- Familiarity with construction project lifecycles, blueprint interpretation, and vendor coordination.
- Skilled in coordinating with BIM models for theatre equipment integration.
- In-depth understanding of current theatrical infrastructure standards and building codes.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Vectorworks, or Revit for reading and interpreting technical drawings.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills for effective cross-disciplinary collaboration.
- Ability to work on-site and adapt to changing construction timelines and conditions.
- Experience in theatre operations and maintenance is a plus
